Navigating Distractions: Creating Engagement Experiences for Your Attendees

The conference experience has moved beyond just a presentation with basic AV. With new expectations for engagement from our participants comes the challenge of digital distractions. Keeping attendees engaged before, during, and after the meeting will never be the same! Join in and share best practices for engaging attendees through content, destinations, marketing, social media, technology, and other experiences. Attendee participation in required!

Jamie Murdock, Vice President, Sales, Experient, a Maritz Global Events Company

Murdock is Vice President of Sales at Experient and has the responsibility for leading the team that cultivates new customers for the organization.  He is passionate about inspiring his team to be curious and encourages collaboration across all departments and a wide variety of resources.  Murdock holds a BS in Business from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. Prior to joining Experient, Murdock led the national sales team for Disney Destinations. He also held sales executive leadership roles at Zentila, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts and Gaylord Hotels, where he was recognized as the Sales Person of the Year and received its CEO’s Leadership Excellence Award. Mary Gallagher, CMP, Director, Convention Sales, Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board

An industry veteran for over 20 years, Mary has represented hotels in Alexandria, VA and San Jose, CA.  She opened the DC office for the San Jose CVB in 2002 and handled the DC/VA/MD market for 8 years.  In 2010 she left for San Francisco Travel and was part of the city-wide convention team.  In 2014 she joined the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board working with city-wide conventions.  Volunteer experience includes membership, committee and board work with the Association of Meeting Professionals, IAEE,  MPI Potomac and is a past president for the PCMA Capital Chapter.  Mary is currently serving on the national PCMA Membership Committee and resides in Alexandria, VA.

 

Kirsten Olean, CAE, IOM, Director of Meetings, American Society for Microbiology

Kirsten is the Director of Meetings at the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), a position she assumed in October 2014 after 17 years at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).  As director, Kirsten provides strategic leadership for the programs of ASM’s Meetings Strategy Committee, as well as oversight and direction to a staff of 13 that includes program management, logistics, registration and housing. Kirsten has extensive volunteer service to PCMA, including serving as President of the Capital Chapter (2013) and Chair of the national Achievement Awards and Recognition Committee (2014). She began a three-year-term on the PCMA Board of Directors in January 2015, and is currently serving an additional  year after being selected by the Board to fill a vacancy. Nicole O’Leary , VP, Creative , The Expo Group

Nicole leads Experience Design at The Expo Group, overseeing our creative teams to design and deliver unique, compelling and memorable experiences that attract, engage, immerse and reward. Nicole is a 17-year veteran having led the experience design and creative efforts for large associations, corporate events and global brands. Focusing on attendee-journey-centric design means creating physical, emotional and learning environments that ensure a complete immersion of client’s audiences in their brands for all generations.
