Ernest Hemingway said, “It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.” For me, I started this journey nearly 12 months ago in Las Vegas at our Convening Leaders Chapter Reception and it is nearly at an end. Time passes so quickly, but this journey included so many accomplishments for the Chapter. I am especially grateful to my Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Committee Chairs, Co-Chairs, every volunteer, and the support from our management company, ACG. Your time, expertise and passion made a difference and is directly responsible for everything we accomplished this year.

As we emerged from the pandemic, we faced many unknowns. How would our industry rebound? How fast would it rebound? Will our daily lives go back to normal? Like life, the answers are not simple and depending on where you sit the answers are probably different. We also faced a much different business landscape with challenges such as labor and supply chain issues, rising costs and different contract clauses.

Despite these unknowns and challenges, I am proud the PCMA Capital Chapter weathered these storms and provided timely education through our Spark, Sparkler and Virtual Lunch and Learns. We continued our advocacy efforts primarily through our GMID program. Our Marketing and Communications Committees revamped our Chatter and Capital Pulse newsletters and designed creative and engaging social media campaigns. We continued embracing the “next generation” through our Emerging Professionals Committee and we made a difference in our community as our Community Services Committee championed Martha’s Table as our charity of the year. I am especially proud of our newest committee, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, as we worked to ensure the Chapter is a safe, inclusive, and welcoming community. Lastly, how could I forget our Membership Committee for producing our inaugural Drag Bingo event! All of this would not have been possible without the support of our sponsor partners and the hard work of our Sponsorship Committee.

Of course, we have not entirely recovered. We have more work to do to navigate the ever-changing business landscape; however, we do have a solid foundation to build upon and a very talented group of leaders to guide us through everything 2023 has in store for us. Thank you again for the privilege of serving as your 2022 President! It has truly been one of the highlights of my career and I am so very humbled to have been trusted as a steward of this incredible responsibility. I hope everyone can have a great end to the year with a fun and restful holiday with your family, friends and loved ones. The journey is nearly at an end, but it most definitely was a journey that mattered.
