October Discovery Studio – Disrupt + ED:
Meeting Professionals As Agents of Change
“Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible” Frank Zappa
Presented by: Scott Steen, FASAE, CAE
Executive Director – American Physiological Society
Despite years of experience and ample creativity, meeting professionals often feel powerless to affect change on a grand scale within our associations or even within our meetings programs. We may have great ideas to reinvent our annual meetings, strategies that would significantly improve our conferences, or even insights that might transform our entire associations. But how can we move the needle forward to make change happen?
In this session, you’ll learn how you can become an agent for transformation – whether you lead a large meetings department or are a newly minted meetings coordinator.
Long before he became a CEO, Scott Steen was a lifelong change agent, having created dozens of new association meetings, programs, initiatives, and publications, and transformed organizational cultures. Steen will share his unique perspective on how anyone in an organization can become a change agent, regardless of position. He’ll then take the hot seat and answer questions from one of our own meeting professionals, Desiree Knight, Director of Education and Meetings for the American Railway Engineering Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA).
Learning Objectives:
- Discover the five characteristics of an association change agent.
- Learn specific tools and actionable strategies you can employ right away to begin making change in your organization.
