A Message from the President

UNIFIED as an Industry, Association, and a Chapter

PCMA Capital Chapter Members:

There is no question that we are facing tough times ahead. Regardless of you and your organizations role in the business events industry, we are all in this together. Many of us need to make tough decisions, and many of us even face challenges and uncertainty in job security as our industry outlook changes daily with each piece of breaking news.  With that, I want you all to know that this will, in time, pass. If we are kind to ourselves, each other, and help where needed our incredibly resilient industry will return to strong performance.  There will ALWAYS be a need for meetings, and our innovative community will find a way to return better than ever.

As an industry, we are constantly impacted by what happens in the world, good and bad.  Through that, we have always found success in collaboration.  This is already evident during the current crisis, and that is one of the reasons I love our industry and our people.  It’s situations like this where we are our strongest.

I am here if anyone has questions, concerns, or ideas on how we can best serve you, our members.  I thank all of you for your hard work inside and out of the Capital Chapter. As we all work thru immediate needs and challenges, do not be afraid to reach out for help in any way shape or form. As they say- The show must go on!  And it will.

As your professional association and industry community it is critical for the Capital Chapter to provide the proper resources and support to our members during this uncertain and challenging time.

This is when the value of PCMA and the Capital Chapter can be most helpful to all of us, and I strongly encourage all of you to work together in support of each other and the industry as we navigate these rough waters.

Immediate Messaging and resources from the Chapter and PCMA regarding COVID-19

As a chapter of PCMA it is critical that we align with our HQ organization who has put together an incredible resource for all planners.  You can find the central resource page here:  https://www.pcma.org/coronavirus-business-events-professionals-need-to-know-faq/

We have posted this PCMA resource page to our social media outlets and is also found on the chapter website to easily click thru to for all looking for resources related to the virus and meetings and events.

In addition, we are promoting the webinars that PCMA has scheduled.

GMID 2020

Global Meetings Industry Day is more important than ever this year.  I am proud to say that our volunteer teams have worked tirelessly to build a great program, and for the first time we are partnering with our local industry organizations as they assist with marketing the GMID programing to their members.  Together, we will be showing unprecedented unification at a time we need it most. The Chapter has partnerships agreed on with PMPI (Co-host) the PCMA Chesapeake Chapter, HSMAI DC Chapter, AMPs, SGMP NATCAP, IAEE DC Chapter and LGBT MPA.

At this time our programming will continue as scheduled, however, we are monitoring the situation carefully with guidance from partners, venues, and the Global organizers of this important day.

Should there be a postponement or change in any aspect we will be sure to notify all of you immediately. I encourage you to register with confidence and if for some reason we need to cancel or postpone the gathering to a date you cannot attend; we will issue full refunds without questions due to the circumstances at hand.

Thank you for the incredible work and support of the PCMA Capital Chapter and the Business Events Industry now and in the future. Each of you make a difference, and together we make great impact!

Sincerely,

John Rubsamen
President
